The history of Asia is a long and complex one, spanning millions of years and encompassing numerous civilizations, cultures, and peoples. Asia is the world’s largest and most populous continent and includes countries such as China, Japan, India, Thailand, and many others. Early human life in the region can be traced back to Paleolithic times, when hunter-gatherers moved east from Africa. Over the following centuries, various tribes and ethnic groups populated the continent, creating the diverse cultures that are found throughout Asia today. Major events over the next millennia included the spread of Buddhism, the rise and fall of powerful dynasties, and the colonization of many countries by European powers. In the 20th century, the region experienced numerous wars, revolutions, and political movements, all of which resulted in sweeping changes that continue to shape the region today.
