A trust is a legal arrangement under which a person or organization (the trustee) holds property or assets (the trust property or assets) for the benefit of another (the beneficiary). The trust property or assets may include real estate, investments, cash, or other assets. Trusts may be created for a variety of purposes, including providing for the care of children, tax or estate planning, providing for the care of the elderly, protecting property from creditors, or to ensure that assets are managed responsibly.
